If Darth Vader was more powerful than Sidious than why didn't he overthrow him?

Anakin said that he was more powerful than the emperor. He was created by the force itself. Why did he stay the emperor's apprentice? Why didn't he overthrow him before episode 6? Did his power diminish when he became part machine?
