Is Water Baptism Necessary to My Salvation?

I know that we are highly encouraged to go through the ritual of water baptism after we are saved. I am saved, but have yet to be baptized, because I have this complex about going up there on stage before the congregation and going through the ritual. I wish I could get over this, as I want to please the Lord, and get this done. But I need to know if it is commanded in the Scriptures, or not. I am not sure. I know sooner or later I will get it done, but just feel badly about it that I can't seem to get it done, and over with. Please be gentle with me on this subject, as some have said to me, what is the matter with you, just get it done, but they don't take into account my feelings. Thanks.
