What is the purpose of the herb kali jeeri?

i have a bag of kali jeeri (Centratherum Anthlmn) and i am wondering what is it for? its been sitting on my spice rack for awhile. its eastern indian but smells familiar. i just cant pinpoint what it is. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 pts for the best answer!
